Jio Platforms posts Rs 8,387 crore profit in first post-listing quarter
Jio Platforms' Q2 FY27 profit rose 13.7% to Rs 8,387 crore in its first results after listing, with ARPU at Rs 218.8 and 542.4 million users.
Jio Platforms reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 8,387 crore for the September 2026 quarter, up 13.7% from a year earlier, in its first results since its shares began trading. Revenue from operations rose 11.4% to Rs 40,475 crore. The figures were reported on 30 October 2026 by Inc42 and the Free Press Journal, and they are the company's own numbers, not independently checked.
What the quarter showed
Inc42 reports profit of Rs 8,387 crore against Rs 7,379 crore a year ago and Rs 7,764 crore in the June quarter, which is 8% higher than the previous quarter. EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, a measure of operating profit) rose 16.6% to Rs 21,879 crore. The Free Press Journal says the EBITDA margin widened by 250 basis points to 54.1%. Other income jumped 49.5% to Rs 978 crore, and total expenses rose 11.6%, slightly faster than revenue. Finance costs rose because 5G assets were capitalised in March 2026, which ate into part of the EBITDA gain, the company said.
The two outlets differ slightly on the year-ago profit (Rs 7,379 crore against Rs 7,375 crore), so we use only the figure Inc42 gives with the growth rate.
Users, ARPU and 5G
Jio added a net 9.1 million customers to reach 542.4 million. It says 300 million are on 5G. ARPU (average revenue per user per month, the telecom industry's basic yardstick) was Rs 218.8, up 3.5% from a year earlier; the company credits a better mix and higher usage, partly offset by promotional offers on fixed broadband. The average customer used about 44.2 GB of data a month. The Free Press Journal adds that fixed broadband passed 30 million subscribers, with 15.1 million on AirFiber, and that total data traffic grew 22.1%.
The customer numbers give the scale behind the profit. The chart puts the main ones together, in millions.
The listing backdrop
This is the first report since the listing. The IPO closed on 28 October and raised roughly Rs 30,200 crore; the two outlets give slightly different totals (Rs 30,213 crore and Rs 30,188 crore). Inc42 says it was oversubscribed 22.19 times, and the shares closed 0.57% higher at Rs 1,431.20 on the BSE on results day. The Free Press Journal says Rs 27,500 crore of the proceeds will repay external commercial borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, and that the market value reached Rs 12.50 lakh crore. Those market figures are reported, not audited.
What it means for readers
For people who follow listed telecom, the quarter shows growth coming from price and mix as well as from new users, since ARPU grew 3.5% and 9.1 million customers were added. For customers, ARPU rising slowly suggests plans are not being repriced sharply. For readers who track new listings, a first result after listing is the first test of whether disclosure matches the IPO story. This is analysis, not a recommendation on any share.
A rough check: multiply ARPU by users and by three months and you get an implied mobile revenue close to the Rs 35,307 crore Inc42 reports for the telecom subsidiary. Try other values below. The result is an approximation, not a reported figure.
What to watch next
The next checks are the December quarter results, any change in tariffs, and how the shares trade in their first weeks. Watch whether ARPU keeps rising and whether finance costs continue to absorb EBITDA gains.
